Coach of the Week – Diana Mitchell

Learn how successful coaches started out and learn from their success!

Name: Diana Mitchell

Location: Portland, Oregon, USA

Q.  Why did you become a coach?
A. Four years ago, I was searching for a new job; the requirement was that it empowered others and elevated them. I found life coaching and then began my love affair. Definitely love at first sight.

Q.  Aside from coaching what do you love doing?
A. Ballroom & latin dancing, I used to teach it for several years. Dancing is my instant happiness creator. Also going to drag races and car shows and drooling over sexy cars. Running 5 and 10k races. Also camping and hiking with my husband, dog and 3 best friends of almost 20 years.

Q.  What was the scariest thing about starting your business?
A. Once I graduated from my coaching programs a few years ago, I was knowledgeable about coaching, but ZERO idea how to do the business and marketing side. Something inside of me knew I would be successful and make a big impact, but kept procrastinating because I didn’t know where to start. After getting distracted by a good paying full-time job, I put my dream biz on hold for a year. My longing to finally create an online presence, never left me though. Instead, my passion and drive became stronger.  The thought of never actually going through with being a coach was the scariest thing though. And the reason I’ve invested in my biz education put myself out there with my online presence.

Q.  What would you tell someone who is just       starting out as a coach?
A. Your voice and your work deserve to be heard. Your mind is capable of so many things. Re-framing old beliefs is essential. When you’re also working full time, finding the time to do it all is exhausting. Let your passion carry you through and remember to take breaks from your biz.  Also when you first start coaching, resist giving advice to your clients. The most impactful and meaningful coaching is done through asking your client thought provoking questions.

Q.  What is the best thing about your business?
A. The best thing, it is sooo me. I get to decide what I want to do, when, if and how. I’m responsible for my success. If I work my butt off, I am rewarded. If I slack, it shows too and that’s motivating for me. Also, I love living on my terms and from home. Hello yoga pants and writing in bed while my dog lays on my feet! Of course, have to mention making an impact to women all around the globe :)

Q.  What exciting plans are you working on at the moment?
A.  I just launched a new 3-month coaching program for busy female entrepreneurs who are ready to go from working non-stop in their biz, to making money AND having a life. I’m super excited about this program because my clients are already seeing major results and are making money from our coaching. Self-care and balance isn’t for funzies as a biz owner, it is essential and makes you money.
